Clothing, Pocket Money and Allowances

Pocket money, leisure and clothing allowances provided by the children’s home can be used to help children develop money management and finance skills and awareness.

Young People are given separate allowances for clothing, toiletries and pocket money. The amounts vary according to age. Young people are supported to manage these funds as independently as possible in order to develop money management skills.

Each home will ensure savings are kept on behalf of the children. This will involve setting aside £5 per week for each child & young person and £10 per week from the age of 11. A journal will be set up and managed by the Resource & Placements team to monitor these savings. The savings will be passed to the young people once they have turned 18.

The young people will be supported in how they manage these savings going into adulthood with help from staff and their social worker.
